FSS Program

What is the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program?

This exciting OHA program offered to Section 8 participants is designed to help persons receiving welfare or other assistance become economically self-sufficient within 5 years. Participants set goals for themselves to reach during that time. FSS helps them to develop an action plan to achieve the goals and objectives necessary for economic independence. Participants are connected with the appropriate support services and resources in the community. In return, OHA sets up escrow (savings) accounts for them with a portion of the extra rent they pay when they obtain employment or increases in income. They are eligible for OHA's first-time homebuyer program. If you are interested in participating in the Family Self-Sufficiency Program, contact the Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator at (334) 749-5468.
