Our Mission Statement

The mission statement of the Opelika Housing Authority (OHA) is to provide

drug-free, decent, safe and sanitary housing for eligible families, to provide

opportunities and to promote self-sufficiency and economic independence for residents.

In order to achieve this mission we will:

  • Recognize the resident as the ultimate customer.
  • Improve Public Housing Authority (PHA) management and service delivery efforts through effective and efficient management of PHA staff.
  • Seek problem-solving partnerships with residents, community and governmental leadership.
  • Apply limited PHA resources to the effective and efficient management and operation of public housing programs.

The Opelika Housing Authority is a nonprofit public corporation established in 1949. The OHA receives its authority from the state legislation and from contractual agreement with the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The Opelika Housing Authority began as 151 units in two different housing sites. The OHA is now composed of 634 units, located at 10 different sites, which includes Camp Hill.

The Opelika Housing Authority administers 490 Section 8 Vouchers. While both public housing and Section 8 programs fall under the purview of the Department of Housing and Urban Development and seek to address the housing needs of low income individuals, the programs differ in how they operate.

The Opelika Housing Authority currently serves 2,250 Opelika and Camp Hill housing residents.
